You wake up in the morning, the alarm didn’t go off. Now you are running late. You hurry to take a shower, grab whatever you can for breakfast and rush out the door. Traffic. Your day is full of meetings, deadlines and other obligations. Dealing with different and possibly difficult personalities is not so simple all the time. That can stress out the most zen person.
It’s the roller coaster of life!! You get on it and it takes you on its ups and downs. Spinning in circles and all around. If you could only stop and get off of it for a little while, just to get some peace and quiet. Tranquility and equanimity is what we all search for or at least most of us desire.
So how do we stop from getting caught up in the chaos of life, in the maya around us? Simple. You don’t get on the roller coaster. There will always be chaos around us. This disorder is imminent. The key is to remain still, remain silent. Stop and take a moment to breathe and ground yourself. Imagine everything moving around you, but you are unaffected and untouched. It’s like the lotus flower that is surrounded by dirt and muck but yet rises above it and stands so beautiful!
I know that sometimes it’s easier said than done but remember that nothing is impossible. You only need will, desire and determination. The most important thing that one can do to achieve this state of being is to meditate daily. The meditation will allow you to reconnect with your true self. Once you have this connection, you will have the power to remain calm and balanced.
It is also important to maintain some type of spiritual practice along with the meditation. For example, exercises as qi gong, hatha (restorative) yoga, and tai chi help move qi, blood and body fluids throughout the body to nourish and strengthen the organs, tissues and muscles. These exercises also reinforce the mind, body, and spirit connection since they focus on breath and movement. By incorporating any one of these practices, one can attain a sense of rejuvenation, harmony and balance both physically and mentally.
Remember that you are not alone on this journey. When you feel moments of despair, don’t judge yourself, instead simply turn inwards. Remember to always breathe, close your eyes and take deep breaths especially during moments when you feel the tides rising and waves beginning to crash in. Know that there is a force within you that is more powerful than you can have ever imagined. With persistence, you will realize that the roller coaster rides were a thing of the past!
Namaste,
Priya
