You wake up in the morning, the alarm didn’t go off. Now you are running late. You hurry to take a shower, grab whatever you can for breakfast and rush out the door. Traffic. Your day is full of meetings, deadlines and other obligations. Dealing with different and possibly difficult personalities is not so simple all the time. That can stress out the most zen person.
It’s the roller coaster of life!! You get on it and it takes you on its ups and downs. Spinning in circles and all around. If you could only stop and get off of it for a little while, just to get some peace and quiet. Tranquility and equanimity is what we all search for or at least most of us desire.
So how do we stop from getting caught up in the chaos of life, in the maya around us? Simple. You don’t get on the roller coaster. There will always be chaos around us. This disorder is imminent. The key is to remain still, remain silent. Stop and take a moment to breathe and ground yourself. Imagine everything moving around you, but you are unaffected and untouched. It’s like the lotus flower that is surrounded by dirt and muck but yet rises above it and stands so beautiful!
I know that sometimes it’s easier said than done but remember that nothing is impossible. You only need will, desire and determination. The most important thing that one can do to achieve this state of being is to meditate daily. The meditation will allow you to reconnect with your true self. Once you have this connection, you will have the power to remain calm and balanced.
It is also important to maintain some type of spiritual practice along with the meditation. For example, exercises as qi gong, hatha (restorative) yoga, and tai chi help move qi, blood and body fluids throughout the body to nourish and strengthen the organs, tissues and muscles. These exercises also reinforce the mind, body, and spirit connection since they focus on breath and movement. By incorporating any one of these practices, one can attain a sense of rejuvenation, harmony and balance both physically and mentally.
Remember that you are not alone on this journey. When you feel moments of despair, don’t judge yourself, instead simply turn inwards. Remember to always breathe, close your eyes and take deep breaths especially during moments when you feel the tides rising and waves beginning to crash in. Know that there is a force within you that is more powerful than you can have ever imagined. With persistence, you will realize that the roller coaster rides were a thing of the past!
Namaste,
Priya

Everyone is talking about Detox these days. I have had so many patients that have been asking me about detox and weight loss. I decided that at the beginning of the last year I would design and test a program on myself. I had to see for myself what all the buzz was about. After much research, I chose a pharmaceutical grade nutraceutical company to use for the detox. For the entire 28 days I did a food elimination diet which was wheat free, gluten free, dairy free, sugar free, alcohol free, caffeine free, yeast free, and soy free. I know it sounds intense but it’s really not as bad as one would think. I actually felt great!! During the middle 14 days, I did whey protein shakes twice per day plus snacks in between and one full meal. My goal was to create wellness and feel healthier. I lost 4-5 lbs without much effort.
You may wonder why would one even want to detox. There are so many toxins in our food, water, air- not to mention stress and poor lifestyle choices. These things create free radicals (toxins) in our body. Our bodies can naturally detox through the intermediary phase of our metabolism. However, when it gets overloaded with these things, our Liver (which the most important detoxification organ) gets taxed and cannot function as efficiently. Our body has a certain amount of anti-oxidants that target and bind to free radicals. However, with all the additional overload, our bodies end up producing more free radicals than we can detoxify. Our liver becomes fatty and unhealthy. The consequence that our bodies become inflammatory and it’s the inflammation that causes diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, atherosclerosis, diabetes and cancer to name a few.
One thing that all my patients in my detox groups have told me was that they had discovered how much processed food they eat. They now read labels and are more aware of what goes into their body. When several of my patients first saw the food elimination list, they were a little concerned. Within the first week, all of them could not believe how easy it was to remove those foods from their diet. More importantly, how much better they felt, and how much better their digestion was working.
I believe that knowledge is power. To be aware and to have information will empower you to make the right decisions and how to make healthier food choices. Please contact me at contact@priyaadvani.com if you are interested in receiving more information regarding my detox groups.
